It's the latest development in the partnership between Macy's and WHP Global, the toy store's parent company. All Macy's stores across the country will include an in-store Toys R Us and be stocked with toys from the storied brand, Macy's said on Monday.
The Toys R Us sections are designed to stand out and will include hands-on demonstration tables for customers to try out and play with the toys. And for those missing Geoffrey the giraffe, worry not. The stores will feature a photo opportunity with the \"Geoffrey on a Bench.\"
Driving the news: Ahead of the holiday season, the department store chain announced it is adding small toy shops to all of its U.S. locations that will range from 1,000 to 10,000 square feet at flagship locations.
The re-opening celebration doesn't stop with the stores alone. Visitors will also be able to participate in \"nine days of in-store events, beginning October 15 through October 23, which will include family friendly activities and daily giveaways,\" the statement read.
The retailer is making a comeback in time for the 2019 holiday season with a new approach. Instead of providing mile-long aisles filled with a plethora of toys, the company is switching its focus to smaller stores that will feature interactive toy demonstrations, spaces for special events like birthday parties, new activities every day and open play areas.
The plan was announced Thursday after Tru Kids Brand, the parent of Toys R Us, entered a joint venture with the startup b8ta, which owns a chain of \"experiential\" stores. The retailer has relaunched its website, touting an experience \"centered around product discovery and engagement.\"
Consumers will have the opportunity to play with toys displayed out of the box before potentially purchasing them. The company believes that this immersive experience, for example, will help it track patterns and measure how in-store retail experiences effect online sales.
Macy's will be opening Toys R Us stores inside its U.S. locations -- including six in New Jersey and one in Pennsylvania -- just in time for the 2022 holiday season, according to a news release from the company.
Macy's will also be hosting in-store Toys R Us events at all U.S. locations from Oct. 15 through Oct. 23, set to include family-friendly activities and various giveaways from brands like Barbie, LEGO and Play-Doh.
Toys R Us had already begun liquidating about 180 stores, under both the Toys R Us and Babies R Us banners, as part of its restructuring efforts to revive the business. The retailer filed for bankruptcy protection last September, weighed down by nearly $5 billion in debt.
The abrupt shuttering of Toys R Us' massive store fleet will leave a chunk of vacant real estate on the market. Landlords will be scrambling to find tenants for those locations that aren't owned directly by the toy retailer.
Many of Toys R Us' stores today are leased back to a separate entity created by the company known as Toys R Us Property Co., or Propco. Real estate investment trusts including Kimco, Brixmor and DDR own a handful of stores, while the remainder are owned directly by Toys R Us.
According to real estate analysts, the likely scenario for many of these spaces will include remodeling for multiple occupants. Most of the Toys R Us and Babies R Us locations are more than 40,000 square feet in size, and some are more than 65,000. Tenants such as Dick's Sporting Goods and Best Buy, which also tend to occupy bigger boxes, aren't expanding as rapidly anymore, leaving fewer logical replacements for these stores.
Toys \"R\" Us has reopened at Louisville's Oxmoor Center mall, just in time for the holiday season (OK, it's still October, but it's never too early to start gift shopping). It'll stand as the only Toys \"R\" Us in the city, after the brand's Shelbyville Road storefront and other locations closed in early 2018 following a bankruptcy filing from the company.
Through a partnership with WHP Global, the brands management company that now owns the Toys \"R\" Us brand, Macy's locations throughout the country are opening in-store shops that sell the toy retailer's products. The partnership was announced in July, with Macy's chief merchandising officer Nata Dvir describing it as one that will allow kids of all ages to \"discover the joy of exploration and play within our shops and families create special memories together.\"
The Oxmoor Center location has several aisles of toys, but it isn't quite the same as the massive outlet that used to stand in St. Matthews. Don't expect that overwhelming rush of endorphins you'd get as a kid when you walked through the doors of a huge Toys \"R\" Us supercenter. The outlet's shops inside Macy's stores around the country will range from 1,000 to 10,000 square feet, according to a release.
The iconic toy store chain that had to shut down all of its U.S. stores after filing bankruptcy in 2017 now has hundreds of small toy shops inside Macy's stores throughout the country, including many locations in the Washington, D.C., region.
Macy's representatives said the in-store toy shops will range from 1,000 square feet and span up to 10,000 square feet in flagship locations in Atlanta, Chicago, Honolulu, Miami, Houston, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco.
Toys \"R\" Us, which was once considered the \"king of toy stores,\" filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy 2017. A year later, the toy chain permanently closed all of its remaining U.S. locations, after 70 years in business, CNBC reported.
The rollout of the new pop-up stores is set to begin in late July, with all locations expected to be complete by Oct. 15, according to a press release. In-store shops will vary in size, but span up to 10,000 square feet in flagship locations like Atlanta, Chicago, Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York and San Francisco.
Toys \\\"R\\\" Us, a beloved toy chain, liquidated its U.S. stores in 2018 after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2017. The brick-and-mortar toy megastore buckled under the competition from online retailers like Amazon.
For the past three years, there has been chatter that Toys \\\"R\\\" Us had plans to revive itself in a new direction. Richard Barry, a former Toys R Us executive and CEO of Tru Kids Brands, told the Associated Press in February of 2019 that he and his team had plans to explore new freestanding stores, shops within existing stores and expand e-commerce.
\\\"Macy's cannot wait to bring the Toys 'R' Us experience to life in our stores,\\\" said Nata Dvir, Macy's chief merchandising officer, in part of a statement. \\\"The customer response to our partnership with Toys 'R' Us has been incredible and our toy business has seen tremendous growth.\\\"
On Sept. 21, 2022, Twitter user @patriottakes tweeted, \"This old Toys 'R' Us location in Yuma, Arizona is now a gun store.\" The tweet displayed two pictures. One of the photos displayed the old Toys \"R\" Us sign, and the second picture showed the same building later as a gun store, Firearms Unknown, still with the former toy store's colorful rainbow extending over its entrance, exit, and front windows. This was all true.
When did the Yuma Toys \"R\" Us store close According to the Yuma Sun, the toy store appeared to have shuttered around April 2018, and many other store closures for the toy retailer followed as the company faced bankruptcy.
Yuma customers of Toys \"R\" Us woke up to sad news Wednesday morning. The big box toy store announced plans to close up to 182 stores as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization plan, and the Yuma store located at 801 W. 32nd St. is on the list. 59ce067264
