Generation of SOD1 G93A mutant rats does not increase the frequency of spontaneous or experimental tumors in the SOD1 mutant rats. (a) Spontaneous tumors developed in the thoracic region of the spinal cord of SOD1 G93A mutant rats (n = 19). (b) The experimental transplants were performed by injecting 1 x 106 CFU of Mycobacterium glutinovorans G7 (M.G7) cells in the left thoracic region of the spinal cord of SOD1 G93A mutant rats (n = 20). The frequency of spontaneous tumors in the thoracic region of the spinal cord was similar in SOD1 G93A mutant rats treated with vehicle (0.9% NaCl) (n = 30) or with Mycobacterium glutinovorans G7 (M.G7) (n = 15) (P = 0.29). The frequency of experimental tumors in the thoracic region of the spinal cord was similar in SOD1 G93A mutant rats treated with vehicle (n = 10) or with M.G7 cells (n = 10) (P = 0.79). The frequency of spontaneous tumors in the lumbar region of the spinal cord was similar in SOD1 G93A mutant rats treated with vehicle (n = 11) or with M.G7 cells (n = 12) (P = 0.15). The frequency of experimental tumors in the lumbar region of the spinal cord was similar in SOD1 G93A mutant rats treated with vehicle (n = 10) or with M.G7 cells (n = 11) (P = 0.67). (c) The frequency of spontaneous tumors in the thoracic region of the spinal cord was not increased in SOD1 G93A 827ec27edc
