A similar ringtone appeared on the Nokia 1202 in 1999, named ringtone type 3, which was later renamed ringtone type 6 and ringtone type 7 on later models. In 2004, ringtone type 7 was retired in favor of the Nokia tune.
There is a notable difference between the original composition and the Nokia tune: the latter is a rendition of the original, whereas the former consists of a string of tones looped over itself, creating a kind of erratic rhythm. This creates a more lively song with a more bouncy rhythm.
The Nokia tune is also the default ringtone for the Nokia smartphone Lumia 2520, but the OEM replaced it with the Nokia theme, a song composed by long-time Nokia artist Eliel Aberg, for the new Lumia smartphones.[2]
The original Nokia tune is copyrighted by Nokia, in Finland, and some people consider it a corporation trademark.[2] It is sometimes used as a reference to phone ringtones, and has been associated with the company Nokia since the 1990s.
The Nokia tune is often played when a message or a call comes in, or when a phone calls the caller, as a friendly greeting. Many mobile phone users also associate the tune with Nokia, and the Finnish musical style 827ec27edc
