Malwarebytes Free Full

I just updated from Malwarebytes Anti-Malware free 1.75 to 2.0. I don't see a option in 2.0 for running a Full Scan. All I see is Threat Scan, custom Scan and Hyper Scan. How do I run a Full Scan now ?

During my testing, it detected 95% of the malware files I had previously downloaded to my device, which is a pretty good result. In terms of real-time protection, it successfully blocked 98% of the malware files, which is excellent.

When testing the scanner against malware samples, I got decent results. Before installing Malwarebytes on my Windows device, I downloaded around 1,000 malicious files (viruses, trojans, spyware, etc) to my test PC. Once Malwarebytes completed the Threat Scan, it found around 76% of the files. But the full disk scan detected 95% of malware (although it took about 3 hours, which is pretty long for a full disk scan). While this is a good score, competitors like Norton or Bitdefender, have a perfect 100% malware detection rate.

Therefore, Malwarebytes does not submit its apps to the full gauntlets provided by AV-Test and AV-Comparatives, whose testing takes special notice of zero-day security. However, if Malwarebytes wants to be recognized among its competition, we'd argue that it needs to submit its apps to the same rigorous standards as the competition, even if those standards can create perception issues.

To start a Threat Scan, just click on the Dashboard page's Scan Now. While there's no built-in full-scan option, you can get the equivalent by using the Custom Scans setup and selecting the entire C drive. (The quick Hyper Scan option and the ability to schedule scanning are only available to Premium users.)

Running a full scan via the Malwarebytes Custom Scan interface was even more disheartening, as our benchmark completed in 20.0 seconds. This 46% drop in performance was one of the worst showings for a free malware product.

As fast as the Threat Scans are, examining the entire computer is dreadfully slow. By setting the Custom Scan to look at the entire C drive, I was able to mimic the full scans of regular antivirus software. It took a whopping 5 hours, 15 minutes and 30 seconds for Malwarebytes Free to examine 359,273 files, more than three times slower than Microsoft Defender.
