In Europe, the English dub for the anime series was initially broadcast by the American channel ABC Family, which had acquired the rights to broadcast the series in the UK and Australia. However, Media Blasters opted not to release the series on DVD in the UK and Australia, and the English-dubbed episodes were also later shown on Jetix in 2004. The series was also released on DVD in France by Anima Films under its label JK Video, but was later withdrawn.[29] On May 1, 2006, Anime Limited released the series for the first time on DVD in the UK. The first volume, containing the first seven episodes, was released on June 20, 2006.[30] However, the following volumes were released as a six-part limited edition box set with a bonus fifth disc (containing the two episodes from the final volume), which were released on July 12 and August 16, 2006, respectively.[31][32]

In the manga series, the story is set in a fictional Medieval Europe where humans and monsters coexist. In the world of Berserk, humans and other humanoid animals are called Humans, while most monsters are called Monsters. The story is presented through a mixed narrative style. First-person chapters, in which the protagonist is the main character, feature a timeline style of narration while third-person chapters, which follow other characters, employ a point-of-view style similar to most other shounen manga. 827ec27edc
